# วิบากกรรมของผู้ทำทานแล้วเสียดายในกาลครั้งหนึ่ง พระเจ้าปเสนทิโกศล ได้เสด็จไปเฝ้าศาสดาและได้กราบทูลว่า ที่พระองค์เสด็จมาช้านั้น ก็เพราะเมื่อเช้านี้คฤหบดีผู้เป็นเศรษฐี ในกรุงสาวัตถี เป็นผู้ไม่มีบุตร ได้เสียชีวิตหาทายาทมิได้ท้าวเธอจึงได้รับสั่งให้ขนทรัพย์สมบัติไปเก็บไว้ในราชสำนักจากนั้นท้าวเธอได้กราบทูลถึงประวัติของเศรษฐีผู้นี้ว่า แม้ว่าจะเป็นเศรษฐี แต่เป็นคนตระหนี่ เมื่อตอนที่ยังมีชีวิตอยู่นั้นไม่เคยทำบุญให้ทาน ไม่ยอมจับจ่ายใช้สอยทรัพย์แม้เพื่อตนเองอาหารที่รับประทานในแต่ละวันก็มีแต่ข้าวปลายเกรียนและน้ำผักดอง เสื้อผ้าที่สวมใส่ก็เป็นเสื้อผ้าราคาถูกๆ รถที่ใช้โดยสารก็เป็นรถเก่าๆ เมื่อทรงสดับประวัติของเศรษฐีแล้วพระศาสดาได้ตรัสกับพระราชาและประชาชนที่มาชุมนุมเพื่อฟังธรรม ถึงอดีตชาติของเศรษฐีผู้นี้ ซึ่งแม้ในครั้งนั้นก็เกิดเป็นเศรษฐีเหมือนกัน ว่าวันหนึ่ง พระปัจเจกพุทธเจ้า ได้มายืนบิณฑบาตอยู่ที่หน้าบ้านของเศรษฐี เศรษฐีได้บอกภรรยาให้นำสิ่งใดสิ่งหนึ่งมาถวายพระปัจเจกพุทธเจ้านั้น ฝ่ายภรรยาคิดว่านานๆ ครั้งที่สามีจะอนุญาตให้นางให้สิ่งใดหนึ่งหนึ่งแก่ใครๆ นางจึงได้นำอาหารอย่างดีไปใส่ลงในบาตรของพระปัจเจกพุทธเจ้า เมื่อเศรษฐีเดินกลับมาพบพระปัจเจกพุทธเจ้าอีกครั้งหนึ่ง ก็ได้มองไปที่บาตรของท่าน เมื่อเห็นแต่อาหารดีๆ อยู่ในบาตร ก็คิดว่า“พวกทาสหรือพวกกรรมกรกินอาหารนี้ยังดีกว่า เพราะว่าพวกเขาครั้นกินอาหารนี้แล้ว จะทำการงานให้เราส่วนสมณะนี้ครั้นไปกินแล้วก็จะนอนหลับ อาหารบิณฑบาตของเราสูญเปล่า”นอกจากนั้นแล้ว เศรษฐีผู้นี้มีน้องชายซึ่งเป็นเศรษฐีเหมือนกันต้องการจะแย่งชิงสมบัติของน้องชายมาเป็นของตนทั้งหมด จึงได้วางแผนฆ่าบุตรชายของน้องชายซึ่งเป็นหลานแท้ๆของตนจนเสียชีวิต และเมื่อน้องชายเสียชีวิตแล้ว ก็ได้ยึดทรัพย์ทั้งหมดของน้องชายมาเป็นของตน เพราะกุศลกรรมจากการที่ได้ถวายอาหารบิณฑบาตแด่พระปัจเจกพุทธเจ้า ทำให้เขาได้เป็นเศรษฐีในชาติปัจจุบัน แต่เพราะอกุศลกรรมคือนึกเสียใจที่ภรรยาได้ให้อาหารดีๆ แด่พระปัจเจกพุทธเจ้า ทำให้เขาไม่ต้องการจ่ายทรัพย์ใดๆ เพื่อตัวเขาเองและเพราะผลของอกุศลกรรมที่ฆ่าหลานชายเพื่อฮุบสมบัติ ทำให้เขาไปตกนรกอยู่เป็นเวลานานแสนนาน และเพราะผลกรรมที่เหลือ ทำให้เขาถูกยึดทรัพย์สมบัติไปเป็นของหลวง พฤติกรรมของเศรษฐีเข้าทำนองที่ว่า บุญเก่าหมดไปและบุญใหม่ไม่สั่งสม และเมื่อสิ้นชีวิตก็ได้ไปเสวยทุกข์ในมหาโรรุวนรก พระเจ้าปเสนทิโกศล ทรงสดับพระดำรัสของพระศาสดาแล้ว จึงกราบทูลว่า“พระเจ้าข้า น่าอัศจรรย์ นี้เป็นกรรมอันหนัก เศรษฐีนั้นเมื่อโภคะมีอยู่มากมาย แต่ไม่ใช้สอยด้วยตนเองเลย เมื่อพระพุทธเจ้าเช่นกับพระองค์ประทับอยู่ในวิหารใกล้ๆ ก็มิได้ทำบุญกรรม”พระศาสดาตรัสว่า“จริงอย่างนั้น มหาบพิตร ชื่อว่าผู้มีปัญญาทราม ได้โภคะทั้งหลายแล้ว ย่อมไม่แสวงหานิพพาน อนึ่ง ตัณหาซึ่งเกิดขึ้นเพราะอาศัยโภคะทั้งหลาย ย่อมฆ่าคนเหล่านั้นสิ้นกาลนาน”จากนั้นพระศาสดาได้ตรัสพระธรรมบท พระคาถานี้ว่าโภคะทั้งหลาย ย่อมฆ่าคนทรามปัญญาแต่ไม่ฆ่าคนผู้แสวงหาฝั่งโดยปกติ คนทรามปัญญาย่อมฆ่าตนเหมือนฆ่าคนอื่นเพราะความทะยานอยากในโภคะ."เมื่อเรือนถูกไฟไหม้แล้ว เจ้าของเรือนขนเอาภาชนะใดออกไปได้ภาชนะนั้นย่อมเป็นประโยชน์แก่เขา ส่วนสิ่งของที่มิได้ขนออกไปย่อมไหม้ในไฟนั้น ฉันใด โลก (คือหมู่สัตว์) อันชราและมรณะเผาแล้ว ก็ฉันนั้น ควรนำออก (ซึ่งโภคสมบัติ) ด้วยการให้ทานเพราะทานวัตถุที่บุคคลให้แล้ว ได้ชื่อว่านำออกดีแล้วทานวัตถุที่บุคคลให้แล้วนั้นย่อมมีสุขเป็นผล ที่ยังมิได้ให้ย่อมไม่เป็นเหมือนเช่นนั้น โจรยังปล้นได้ พระราชายังริบได้ เพลิงยังไหม้ได้ หรือสูญหายไปได้ อนึ่งบุคคลจำต้องละร่างกายพร้อมด้วยสิ่งเครื่องอาศัยด้วยตายจากไป ผู้มีปัญญารู้ชัด ดั่งนี้แล้วควรใช้สอยและให้ทาน เมื่อได้ให้ทานและใช้สอยตามควรแล้วจะไม่ถูกติฉิน เข้าถึง สถานที่อันเป็นสวรรค์"

ท้าวเธอจึงได้รับสั่งให้ขนทรัพย์สมบัติไปเก็บไว้ในราชสำนัก

จากนั้นท้าวเธอได้กราบทูลถึงประวัติของเศรษฐีผู้นี้ว่า แม้ว่าจะ

เป็นเศรษฐี แต่เป็นคนตระหนี่ เมื่อตอนที่ยังมีชีวิตอยู่นั้น

ไม่เคยทำบุญให้ทาน ไม่ยอมจับจ่ายใช้สอยทรัพย์แม้เพื่อตนเอง

อาหารที่รับประทานในแต่ละวันก็มีแต่ข้าวปลายเกรียน

และน้ำผักดอง เสื้อผ้าที่สวมใส่ก็เป็นเสื้อผ้าราคาถูกๆ รถที่ใช้

โดยสารก็เป็นรถเก่าๆ เมื่อทรงสดับประวัติของเศรษฐีแล้ว

พระศาสดาได้ตรัสกับพระราชาและประชาชนที่มาชุมนุ

มเพื่อฟังธรรม ถึงอดีตชาติของเศรษฐีผู้นี้ ซึ่งแม้ในครั้งนั้นก็เกิด

เป็นเศรษฐีเหมือนกัน ว่า

วันหนึ่ง พระปัจเจกพุทธเจ้า ได้มายืนบิณฑบาตอยู่ที่หน้าบ้าน

ของเศรษฐี เศรษฐีได้บอกภรรยาให้นำสิ่งใดสิ่งหนึ่งมาถวายพร

ะปัจเจกพุทธเจ้านั้น ฝ่ายภรรยาคิดว่านานๆ ครั้งที่สามีจะอ

นุญาตให้นางให้สิ่งใดหนึ่งหนึ่งแก่ใครๆ นางจึงได้นำอาหา

รอย่างดีไปใส่ลงในบาตรของพระปัจเจกพุทธเจ้า เมื่อเศรษฐีเดิน

กลับมาพบพระปัจเจกพุทธเจ้าอีกครั้งหนึ่ง ก็ได้มองไปที่บา

ตรของท่าน เมื่อเห็นแต่อาหารดีๆ อยู่ในบาตร ก็คิดว่า

“พวกทาสหรือพวกกรรมกรกินอาหารนี้ยังดีกว่า เพราะว่าพวก

เขาครั้นกินอาหารนี้แล้ว จะทำการงานให้เรา

ส่วนสมณะนี้ครั้นไปกินแล้วก็จะนอนหลับ อาหารบิณฑบาตของ

เราสูญเปล่า”

นอกจากนั้นแล้ว เศรษฐีผู้นี้มีน้องชายซึ่งเป็นเศรษฐีเหมือนกัน

ต้องการจะแย่งชิงสมบัติของน้องชายมาเป็นของตนทั้งหมด จึง

ได้วางแผนฆ่าบุตรชายของน้องชายซึ่งเป็นหลานแท้ๆ

ของตนจนเสียชีวิต และเมื่อน้องชายเสียชีวิตแล้ว ก็ได้ยึดทรัพย์ท

ั้งหมดของน้องชายมาเป็นของตน เพราะกุศลกรรมจากการที่

ได้ถวายอาหารบิณฑบาตแด่พระปัจเจกพุทธเจ้า ทำให้เขา

ได้เป็นเศรษฐีในชาติปัจจุบัน แต่เพราะอกุศลกรรมคือนึกเสียใจท

ี่ภรรยาได้ให้อาหารดีๆ แด่พระปัจเจกพุทธเจ้า ทำให้เขาไม่

ในมหาโรรุวนรก พระเจ้าปเสนทิโกศล ทรงสดับพระดำรัส

ของพระศาสดาแล้ว จึงกราบทูลว่า

“พระเจ้าข้า น่าอัศจรรย์ นี้เป็นกรรมอันหนัก เศรษฐีนั้นเมื่อโภคะมี

อยู่มากมาย แต่ไม่ใช้สอยด้วยตนเองเลย เมื่อพระพุทธเจ้าเช่น

กับพระองค์ประทับอยู่ในวิหารใกล้ๆ ก็มิได้ทำบุญกรรม”

พระศาสดาตรัสว่า

“จริงอย่างนั้น มหาบพิตร ชื่อว่าผู้มีปัญญาทราม ได้โภคะ

ทั้งหลายแล้ว ย่อมไม่แสวงหานิพพาน อนึ่ง ตัณหาซึ่งเกิดขึ้น

เพราะอาศัยโภคะทั้งหลาย ย่อมฆ่าคนเหล่านั้นสิ้นกาลนาน”

จากนั้นพระศาสดาได้ตรัสพระธรรมบท พระคาถานี้ว่า

โภคะทั้งหลาย ย่อมฆ่าคนทรามปัญญา

แต่ไม่ฆ่าคนผู้แสวงหาฝั่งโดยปกติ คนทรามปัญญา

ย่อมฆ่าตนเหมือนฆ่าคนอื่น

เพราะความทะยานอยากในโภคะ.

"เมื่อเรือนถูกไฟไหม้แล้ว เจ้าของเรือนขนเอาภาชนะใดออกไปได้

ภาชนะนั้นย่อมเป็นประโยชน์แก่เขา ส่วนสิ่งของที่มิได้ขนออกไป

ย่อมไหม้ในไฟนั้น ฉันใด โลก (คือหมู่สัตว์) อันชราและมรณะเผา

แล้ว ก็ฉันนั้น ควรนำออก (ซึ่งโภคสมบัติ) ด้วยการให้ทาน

เพราะทานวัตถุที่บุคคลให้แล้ว ได้ชื่อว่านำออกดีแล้ว

ทานวัตถุที่บุคคลให้แล้วนั้นย่อมมีสุขเป็นผล ที่ยังมิได้ให้ย่อมไม่

เป็นเหมือนเช่นนั้น โจรยังปล้นได้ พระราชายังริบได้ เพลิงยังไหม้

ได้ หรือสูญหายไปได้ อนึ่งบุคคลจำต้องละร่างกายพร้อม

ด้วยสิ่งเครื่องอาศัยด้วยตายจากไป ผู้มีปัญญารู้ชัด ดั่งนี้แล้ว

ควรใช้สอยและให้ทาน เมื่อได้ให้ทานและใช้สอยตามควรแล้ว

จะไม่ถูกติฉิน เข้าถึง สถานที่อันเป็นสวรรค์"
